When a friend asked Joanna what kind of guys she was into, she looked across the room, locked eyes with Ted, and simply replied, “That guy over there.”

It’s a fitting introduction to Joanna and Ted, whose wedding at Switzer Farm in Mendocino, California was every bit as warm, funny, and down-to-earth as the couple themselves.

Set along the Mendocino coast, Switzer Farm provided the perfect setting for their vision: an intimate dinner party at their own “home on the cliff.” They wanted the weekend to feel formal, but never fussy — a gathering centered around good food, close friends and family, and the feeling of having everyone they love together in one place.

Rather than imposing a particular aesthetic on the property, Joanna and Ted let the setting guide the celebration. Every detail felt personal and handmade. Joanna, a ceramicist, spent several weeks leading up to the wedding throwing more than 20 vases for the tables. At the end of the weekend, guests were invited to take the vases home as a meaningful and unexpected party favor. She also hand-dyed the linen napkins a soft blue and embroidered each one with personalized designs in bright red thread.

Joanna wore a Rebecca Schoneveld gown paired with Sézane shoes, a custom veil, and her signature scent, Annabel’s Birthday Cake by Marissa Zappas. Ted wore a brown tweed Oliver Wicks suit woven with multicolored flecks, adding a relaxed and quietly playful quality to his look.

Ted is a filmmaker himself, so incorporating VHS footage into their wedding film was especially meaningful. The format brought a distinctly 1990s sense of nostalgia to the weekend — imperfect, intimate, and a little bit raw. Paired with digital footage, the VHS imagery gives the film a tactile, lived-in quality that feels perfectly aligned with Joanna and Ted’s personalities.

The result is a wedding film full of personality, humor, and tenderness. Their story isn't told through grand gestures so much as through the small, wonderfully specific moments that reveal who they are: the inside jokes, the handmade details, the laughter of their closest friends, and the quiet affection between the two of them.
